If you are able to get easily fruits, vegetables and greens that have been grown organically without pesticides, it is best you choose to them and pay a little more if necessary. They are much better option that those vegetables that contain residue of pesticides as is the case with most of the vegetables and fruits in the market today. Pesticide residue is harmful for the human health.

The fact that the harmful insecticides and pesticides are toxic and can cause diseases and long-term impairments is known and proved. Therefore it makes sense to do everything possible to switch to organic food. If you have a small backyard or a kitchen garden, you can easily set up your own organic farm in a very small scale and grow vegetables, fruits and greens for your daily use.

The first step entails researching all data available to understand the fertility of the soil and the climate. You will receive the list of vegetables, greens and fruits that can be grown in this climate.

After having selected the vegetables that you wish to grow, decide whether you wish to buy seeds and germinate them or get seedlings and conducted further.

Before you start your organic farming, you have to first begin another project to prepare organic to getting the fertilizer for growing your vegetables. This involves creating a pit and putting in organic waste and other natural leaves etc that is available to create the manure. Since takes around 4-6 months for fertilizer to be ready, you will have to get a head start on this project.

Vegetables and fruits require plenty of sunlight to grow. Therefore choose a place in your garden that gets sufficient sunlight directly and ear mark the same for your project.

Take tips and advise from friends and other people who have already started growing organic vegetables. It might be of grate help. In the beginning stick to growing simple and easy to grow vegetables like tomatoes, turnips, radish, carrots etc. As you go forward and gain experience you can experiment with others vegetables also.

When samplings are out and start to grow, you will need to protect them from the pests, birds and rodents by setting up a basic fence with a network on top. It does not cost much to get the fence in place. You can use the wooden pieces lying around the house or in your garage and make it alone.

Landscape gardening is a really creative process. You can add so many features in your garden landscape. There are so many ideas that you can implement to enhance the look and effect of your garden. However, along with landscaping you would also have to maintain your garden landscape features.

Maintaining one’s garden landscape is not a very difficult process. But at the same time, it has its own requirements that need good amount of practical approach and knowledge on your end. The important things in the mind of a landscaper are to keep the costs low, save time (especially in today’s modern lifestyle) and keep their grass healthy. To keep going smooth and without damage, there are a few approaches that might not strike you immediately that will, however, save you a lot of pain.

First thing to understand, just as in setting up a landscape, is the climate or weather conditions of your land. Depending on that you should chose the type of plants you want to plant. This means that plants that require less watering or can survive more in the heat of the sun, are required in the hot regions. At the same time, the ones that survive in the shade of the trees without much trouble are useful for areas where you have a lot of shade.

This brings us to a very useful, but underrated practice: mulch. It helps a lot in lawns and could be a life saver when it comes to problems you have been having without any success no matter what. In fact, apart from being easy to maintain, manage and is portable for the most part, some types of mulch can also be created yourself. Another very important factor about mulch is that it suppresses weeds and thus reduces half of the weed removal work for you.

Keeping the landscape safe from deer pests or even your own pets like dogs is another issue to consider. When you think you need to let your pets wander free, or there are going to be problems from deer and such, then you need to take the required measures. There are various kinds of covering that could be made to protect your landscape. Another thing to be done is set up a rock based landscape. Apart from the various kinds of grass that go along with rocks, rocks themselves are a good addition to your landscape looks and themselves do not need any maintenance as such, obviously.

In recent years , more and more people have started explore growing their own produce again. Here we give 5 reasons why you might consider starting your own kitchen garden.

- Freshness

Fruit and vegetables taste better and are healthier if eaten as soon as possible after picking. Most fruit you buy from supermarkets and the like is picked well before it is properly ripe, to extend shelf life, and this usually has an impact on flavour. Growing your own lets you taste the freshest possible produce as it’s meant to taste.

- Quality

Commercially grown crops are often selected for their high yields, uniform appearance and long shelf lives rather than for quality and taste. When you grow your own, you can concentrate on the quality rather than the economics.

- Price

Much supermarket fresh produce is hugely overpriced, despite their advertising claims. Growing your own from seed is about as inexpensive as you can get, and even growing from small plants you buy is likely to provide you better food at a lower cost. With many plants, you can use the seed from one growing season to provide plants for the next – a self sustaining cycle that will cost you only time and effort to keep going.

- Provenance

More and more people have concerns about how our food is produced, with chemical pesticides and GM food a particular worry. With your own vegetable patch, you know exactly where your food is from and how it was grown.

- Variety

There are literally thousands of different varieties of fruit and vegetables, but supermarkets tend to concentrate on only the most profitable and easy to sell. This means that our choice is often limited to a few select varieties of apple, for example, rather than the hundreds of traditional kinds that exist. Growing your own lets you pick the varieties you like the most, and experiment to find new ones you’ll rarely see on sale.

There is of course a downside to all this – it takes time and effort. In these increasingly busy times, we might not think we have the time to spare, but starting small with a few herb plants on your windowsill, or even the odd tomato plant, will give you a taste of growing your own and might even be enough to hook you into it for life!

Hibiscus plants are popular in gardens and flower arrangements, since the plants produce astonishingly beautiful flowers on a tall stem. You can choose between wide range of different Hibiscus colours, including the popular red, pink, orange, violet, lavender, yellow and white variants. A Hibiscus flower can reach a size of 4-15 centimetres across and is equipped with five petals. Hibiscus leaves are toothed or lobed and have a deep green shade.

Hibiscus plants will require quite a lot of light, and a majority of the Hibiscus species origins from warm regions of the world. Most Hibiscus species will prefer to be planted where the temperature ranges from 60 to 90 degrees F during most parts of the day. These plants are tougher than many other tropical and subtropical species and will usually survive quite low temperatures as long as they are not prolonged. A cold night can for instance make the plant shed its leaves and buds, but it will survive and eventually begin to form new leaves and buds. You can keep a Hibiscus plant in areas where the temperatures drop below 50 degrees F, but these Hibiscuses will rarely flower. When it does flower, the blossoms will typically be very small and sometimes look a little weird. In a cold climate, you should not give your Hibiscus too much water since this will increase the risk of fungal infections. Temperatures below the freezing point should always be avoided.

If you take care of your Hibiscus, it will begin to produce buds. Hibiscus buds are typically big and tight. Unfortunately, Hibiscus buds are often attacked by worms and insects that can kill the entire bud. When the buds open up and begin to blossom, you can protect them from parasite attacks by regularly spraying them with water.

You can make the Hibiscus flowers last longer by providing them with water and protect them from severe heat. Heavy downpour can harm Hibiscus flowers. If the Hibiscus plant is exposed to temperatures above 95 degrees F, it can begin to drop its buds. This can sometimes be prevented by giving your Hibiscus plant a lot of water and creating some type of shade for it. The plant itself will have no problem surviving temperatures above 100 degrees F as long as it does not become dehydrated.

Pruning your Hibiscus is recommended since Hibiscus plants tend to produce flowers on their new shoots. You can cut off shoots and use in flower arrangements, but they will usually last no longer than 24 hours. If you cut off an almost opened bud you can protect it in the refrigerator until its time to use it.

Hibiscus plants needs a lot of minerals to do well, including manganese, iron and copper. Giving them some form of flower nutrition or fertilizer is therefore a good idea. Ask your florist for more specified instructions regarding your particular soil and Hibiscus species.

Vegetables are healthy and should be eaten regularly. It is nice to grow vegetables by yourself and eat them. But the question arises as to how to grow vegetables. We shall further see some tips and hints on how to grow vegetables.

If you are thinking on how to grow vegetables in the house then it is not very difficult. Growing vegetables requires a lot of sunlight. So it is necessary to see that your garden does get sufficient sunlight. Start from the spring season. It is always better to have a vegetable garden close to the kitchen. This way you have easy access into the garden that would provide faster cooking. The seeds need to be soaked and require moisture. Once they are a little plump they are ready to be grown. Some vegetables like cabbage and broccoli do not require you to soak their seeds. Over doing the soaking the process could cause harm to the seeds. Do not leave them overnight.

Thinking of how to grow vegetables in the cold then you will have to utilize tepees that are filled with water around the vegetables that are gentle. There are certain plastic sheets that are available in the market which acts as a barrier to the plant once water is filled. Sun can also easily pass through this sheet so that the plants stay warm later.

Wondering how to grow vegetables that are leggy then, you should be planting them deep inside. If you have planted them inside the house then they may grow a little awkward and tumble in the garden. So if it is more deeply sown then they get more support. Tomatoes require to be planted horizontally in the trench. This is not necessary to be sown deep in the soil. It would grow well without it itself.

Try to avoid cutworms that spoil gentle and tender plants. When planting vegetable plants always try to put them vertically, this would save some place. Vegetables like cucumber, beans, melons etc. can be left to go on trees or pillars rather than spreading them across. All the vegetables require fertilizers timely. So do take care that you take good care of them. This would ensure that they keep giving vegetables at regular intervals.

Cucumbers and melons can easily grow in compost. Any kind of remaining food and fruits can be thrown into them. They would act as manure and see that the vegetable grows well. This is the best way to grow such vegetables.
